Medusa of Greek myth in her most monstrous form, known as the Gorgon. Canon has some differences from the classic Greek myth, however.
Originally, Medusa and her sisters Euryale and Stheno were Earth Goddesses worshiped by humanity. Unbeknownst to the sisters, the goddess Athena became jealous of Medusa, in particular her hair and the reverence she garnered, and cursed Medusa to be loathed by humanity. With no idea as to why, Medusa was banished by the humans to a small island. Despite themselves not being cursed and still worshiped, Stheno and Euryale joined their little sister so that she would not be alone in seclusion.
Because of the type of goddess she was, Medusa's existence was influenced by humanity's perception of her. The first way this manifested was Medusa aging while her sisters stayed teenagers.
Although Medusa just wanted to be left alone, humans would constantly invade her island in hopes of being the one to slay the monster. Despite not wanting to hurt anyone and having no idea why she was considered a monster, Medusa defended herself and slew the would-be 'heroes'. As time went by, the invaders would also target her sisters, despite them not being cursed, which spurned Medusa on to become better at combat and find newer, more efficient ways to kill the invaders.
Over time, the curse continued to cause human perception to mutate Medusa. She developed serpentine traits, grew ever larger, and gradually went mad. Even when she lost her grasp on reality, her one focus was her need to protect her sisters. Unfortunately, she grew so out-of-touch that when Stheno and Euryale attempted to help her, Medusa failed to recognize them and consumed them.
When she lost her sense of self, she forgot her identity as Medusa and was only known as 'The Gorgon', a demonic beast.
Eventually, Perseus would be the one to slay her, using a combination of dumb luck and a lot of powerful relics given to him by the gods.
🐍 FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Her appearance.
She is enormous: ignoring her monstrous traits, she would still stand at over seven feet tall. Her long tail adds to her mass and the fact she uses it to prop herself up and move around instead of her legs makes her tower over others even more. Her enormous wings add to her imposing appearance.
